Radio Alchemy: Your Donation Becomes Their Voices

Hi friends and supporters of Animal Voices,

This is our biannual call-out for help to keep AV on the air. Our community and campus station, CIUT 89.5 FM, uses the number of financial donors to gauge public interest in programs, so it’s crucial that we continue to fulfill our minimum quota during each fundraising drive. In other words, we’re asking for your support so we can keep bringing you the latest groundbreaking activism and scholarship from around the world. Without listeners like you, Animal Voices will end. With an exciting new weekly Vegan Hip Hop Movement segment, and a great selection of recent shows archived over the past six months, we hope you’ll be inspired to donate.

Here’s the details: We’re quickly approaching the Spring “Love Your Radio” Friends of CIUT fundraising drive. We must meet our quota of 10 new members by April 12. Pre-pledges to the station on behalf of Animal Voices really take the heat off of us. Each $25 donation qualifies as a membership, and renewal also counts toward meeting our quota. (So if you donated in the Fall, but you donate $25 now, it still counts as a new membership.) You might think this shouldn’t be very tough, but during each drive, most spoken word programmers struggle to achieve their quotas, us included. Fortunately, since ’96, people like you have helped the program flourish. (Thank you!)

As an exclusively volunteer-run show, we strive to bring you quality and compelling programming. As you know, Animal Voices works at the intersections of the animal, environmental, and social justice movements, bridging innovative advocacy and quality academia, while highlighting topics often neglected and views little known. Many hours each week are spent researching, organizing, and producing original content. Below you’ll find a list of our favorite shows from the past six months.

Our fundraising show will happen on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 from 11 am EDT – 12 pm EDT, on CIUT 89.5 FM in Toronto and over the net at http://www.ciut.fm. It is extremely helpful if we meet our quota before or by the end of the show on the 12th, so pre-pledges are encouraged and warmly welcomed! To become a member, or to renew your membership, check out your donation options by clicking on the following link: http://www.ciut.fm/about/donate-today/ Please indicate that your pledge is on behalf of Animal Voices. We thank you kindly! Also, please drop us a line (animalvoices@gmail.com) once you’ve donated. If you prefer to wait until our fundraising show to donate, we’ll be sharing the donation-line phone number then.

In closing, we wanted underscore the fact that here are so few public forums for people to exchange ideas about animals in a critical way; community radio is one of the only places that animal issues become part of the public landscape. It really is radio alchemy: Your donation becomes their voices. We encourage you to donate, and to keep this important service alive. To access our full archive (333 online shows to date!), please see our website animalvoices.ca.

Tune in on Tuesday, April 12th for highlights of the past six months. Thanks for your ongoing support!

All the best,

The AV Crew

p.s. If you are unable to donate to AV at this time, but would like to offer your support, please email us a testimonial about why you enjoy, appreciate, or benefit from the program. We also welcome donors to submit testimonials. We’ll read your responses on air during the fundraising drive.
