And ever wonder what the animal rights and vegetarian movements are like in Brazil? Well, we did. So we’ve invited the very impressive, very knowledgeable Marly Winckler on the program to fill us in. Bio: Marly Winckler is a sociologist and translator from Brazil. Vegetarian since 1982 and vegan since 1994, Winckler is the author of Fundamentals of Vegetarianism and Vegetarianism: Elements to a conversation. She is also a translator of more than 50 books including Animal Liberation by Peter Singer and Becoming Vegetarian by Vesanto Melina and Brenda Davis. She is the creator of the popular “Sitio Vegetariano – Vegetarian Site” www.vegetarianismo.com.br (the first page on vegetarianism in Portuguese) and some very successful discussion lists on vegetarianism, including veg-brasil and veg-latina. She is both the Latina American and Caribbean Coordinator of International Vegetarian Union (since 2000) and presidente of the Brazilian Vegetarian Society. Additionally, Winckler coordinated the 36th World Vegetarian Congress in Brazil, a first for any Latin American country.
