It’s been over four months since Hurricane Katrina made its first landfall. As rescue efforts began, stories of abandoned animals gradually surfaced. Some people were forced to leave their animals because of space limitations, while others refused to leave their companions, dangerously weathering the storm and its effects. There were also animals, including farm animals, who were left behind due to human negligence or other constraining circumstances. Now, new stories have come to light. There have been many animal adoptions and miraculous reunions between guardians and their animal friends.
In September, Animal Voices featured guests from a variety of animal organizations, in order to raise awareness about the situation. Join us for a follow-up program, and learn what was accomplished, what still needs to be done, and what it’s been like on the front-lines of the rescue efforts.
