The history of the buffalo (Bison bison) in America is, in many ways, the history of colonialism. Pushed to the brink of extinction by settlers and barely brought back thanks to tireless conservation programs, the wild buffalo of the great plains still face tremendous hardships. In this interview, we speak with Buffalo Field Campaign executive director Daniel Brister about the history of buffalo extermination, the current challenges faced by buffalo when they migrate into Montana cattle country, his work to protect the buffalo inside and beyond the borders of Yellowstone Park.
With tragic numbers and first-hand accounts, Daniel paints a vivid and dire picture of the state of buffalo conservation now. This is an interview you don’t want to miss, and we hope it will inspire you to help out the campaign.
