AV listeners have probably known for a long time that nothing is more attractive than compassion. Now the fashion world is starting to catch on too, thanks in part to Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart.
In 2008, Hilgart quit her MBA and her modeling career to start Vaute Couture. She quickly made a splash with vegan dress coats made to handle Chicago winters. In 2013, Vaute became the first all-vegan label to show at New York Fashion Week — and the models walked adoptable shelter dogs down the runway.
Hilgart will chat with us about the fashion business and the many ways in which she integrates her lifelong animal activism with her work. “The biggest opportunity,” she says, “is to allow someone to really hear how much you care about something.”
