Part 2 – The Last Piece of the Thinking About Animals Conference Pie: On The War Against Animal Activists

Featured today is Part 2 of select presentations from the Thinking About Animals Conference at Brock University. The Animal Voices team is very excited to be able to bring you two incredible talks that ask important questions about the Animal Enterprises Terrorism Act (AETA) and the increasing criminalization of animal activism in the United States.

We start the show off with Will Potter‘s talk about his new book, “Green is the New Red: An Insider’s Account of a Social Movement Under Siege.” Will gives us some invaluable insight into the challenges faced by animal rights activists in light of the relentless animal enterprise and government campaign to frame activists as “eco-terrorists” in the age of the “Green Scare.” A talk sure to both enrage and inspire!

To top off our selections from the conference, we bring you once again, Vasile Stanescu with “Paper Tigers: Nonviolent ‘Terrorists’ and the Danger of the Animals Enterprise Terrorism Act.” Vasile traces the development of the AETA while also compelling us to think about the rhetoric of “terror” as a tool of suppression.

This show is a very special treat that we’re happy to deliver for those who missed the 2011 Thinking about Animals Conference. Enjoy!
